Egypt is mentioned throughout the Bible with tales of the Great Exodus and the flight of the Jesus’s Family into the land of the Pharaohs. Christianity in the country has a long history, and this tour aims to visit many important ancient Christian sites and locations mentioned in the Bible including some said to have been visited by the Holy Family during their journey through the country. We also visit some of Egypt’s most famous Pharaonic sites and learn about the context of how ancient Christians lived in Egypt over the centuries.
Minya province is to the south of Cairo. Whilst you are here you will visit the Monastery of the Holy Virgin which is said to have been founded around a cave where the Holy Family sought refuge for 3 days. The cave now houses an icon of the Virgin Mary which is said to have special properties.

Year after year, we have been told by numerous scholars that events recorded in the books of Genesis and Exodus are nice legends devoid of any historical or archaeological merit. However, a new wind is blowing. An emerging pool of scholars, representing diverse backgrounds, has been openly calling for a drastic reduction in Egyptian chronology. Such a reduction would serve to line up the historical and archaeological records of Egypt and the Old Testament. Surprisingly, there is a substantial amount of evidence to warrant a significant reduction of Egyptian history. And by doing so, the reliability of Genesis, Exodus, and the entire Old Testament will have to be reconsidered as a viable source of historical truth.
